Penny Stock Trader, Trading Mentor.
Timothy Sykes is a penny stock trader. He is well-known for making $1.65 million from a $12,415 Bar Mitzvah present while in college through day trading. In 2003, he established Cilantro Fund Management, a tiny short bias hedge fund, with $1 million raised primarily from friends and family. Following initial successes, the fund was closed down three years later due to huge losses.
Sykes was included to Trader Monthly’s “30 Under 30” list of up-and-coming traders in 2006, a choice that editor Randall Lane subsequently labeled “our poorest pick” among the honorees. Sykes sought to replicate his original investment success in 2008 by starting with $12,415. In 2007, Sykes self-published An American Hedge Fund: How I Made $2 Million as a Stock Operator and Founded a Hedge Fund. The book detailed Sykes’ experiences as a day trader and the challenges he faced when attempting to build a hedge fund.
